At the end of the day, when our time on this earth comes to an end, only two things matter. Where are you with Jesus and where are you with your family? Our Lord himself reflected that sentiment shortly before he breathed his last. He couldn’t leave this earth without knowing his own mother would be okay. If family meant that much to him in the end, it seems it should equally mean as much to us now.

In what must have been a terribly agonizing moment of physical pain, Jesus turned his attention to an unlikely, future citizen of heaven. The thief on the cross can be any of our stories. While candidates are currently telling us why they are so much better than the losers running against them, let’s learn the power of a different approach.
